Vegan / Vegetarianism 2016 – SHORT FILM

Inspired by this video? Here are some simple steps on how to go vegetarian. Remember this doesn’t happen over night and involves a series of baby steps. You do not have be a complete vegan to be a part of the big change, just simply cutting out meat and eggs is enough to make a positive impact in the world!

1.Stop eating RED meat. Cut that out first.

It is the most expensive of all meats, in fact the money used to buy red meat can be used to buy those specialty “health” foods people think they can’t afford, or even more fruits and veggies.
Red meat can be replaced by many types of assorted beans: kidney beans, black beans, navy beans, pinto beans, red lentils, mixed nuts, and juicy meaty mushrooms….better yet as shown in the video there are vegan burgers and patties by “morning star” and boca burgers just to name a few. You can make your own patties by combining mashed beans, almond flour (or put nuts into a blender), bread crumbs from wheat or gluten free rice bread in a blender, and melted cheese to hold it together…fry on a pan with coconut oil or olive oil. For a beefy flavor soy sauce, garlic, and seasonings can be added.

“And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. And for your lifeblood I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will require it and from man.” Genesis 9:3-5

2. Eliminate chicken and pork.

TOFU replaces chicken and pork easily…Tofu is made from soybeans and can be bitter, but it is good at absorbing marinades to flavor it. Soy sauce can be cooked into it as well. Tofu can be fried or baked, put into soup. GARBONZO beans or chick peas also replaces chicken as it has a similar flavor. Canned garbonzo beans (half can) can be grinded in a blender with corn, half of a green pepper, onions, salt, pepper, your favorite spices, some salsa, and 1/3 cup of almond flour or brown rice flour, to make 2-3 Bonzo Burgers. These burgers are similar to the world famous falafel.

SEITAN is also similar to tofu and next to tofu in the super market. It has a more meatier fishy texture, however isn’t gluten free.

“Better is a dinner of herbs where love is than a fattened ox and hatred with it.” Proverbs 15:17

3. Cut Out EGGS.

Refrain from buying a carton of eggs, however if there are foods like baked goods or restaurant dishes that happen to have eggs hidden within the ingredients they are OK on occasion. For baking, use 2 tbs of chia seeds or flaxseed meal for a binder as it makes a gel when absorbed into a cup of liquid—water or almond/coconut/or soy milk for 5-10mins. Ironically flaxseed meal and chia seeds contain the same nutritional benefits as eggs without the saturated fat (and misery of the egg laying hens of course) that is, being rich in omega 3s, omega 6 fatty acids, protein, and even fiber what eggs don’t have. A smashed banana or yogurt with some liquid and flax or chia seeds work too.

4. Keep the yogurt and cheese IN your diet!

Just make sure there is no casein in these dairy products as it comes from the stomach lining of an animal. Also check for carrageenan, a harmful additive we had mentioned in one of our broadcasts that is linked to health complications. If you choose to eliminate cheese and yogurt however, you are choosing to go vegan, and that’s great. For more flexibility, especially for gluten free people. or people with nut allergies I suggest keeping the dairy foods.

Unless it’s an added ingredient in cheese and yogurt, avoid buying cartons of cow’s milk unless it’s pure and organic. Commercial milk means cows are treated unfairly and there are artificial hormones, pus, and other unwanted substances in commercial milk. Cow’s milk is also linked to acne and skin problems….so just avoid it. Milk substitutes like coconut, almond, and soy milk taste better and have twice the calcium and vitamin D as cows milk!

6. Use cruelty free products. Avoid leather, fur, and wool for example.

Buy alternative cosmetics like fair trade products and cruelty free products—-they are not animal tested and have less to no harsh chemicals, which is important for the skin and hair.

“Indulgence of animal killing for the taste of the tongue is the grossest kind of ignorance. A human being has no need to kill animals, because God has supplied so many nice things. The animal killers do not know that in the future that animal will have a body suitable enough to kill them. This is the law of nature. In human society, if one kills a man he has to be hanged. That is the law of the state.” Bhagavad-Gita text 16:14.16
